The entries are in, judging is being completed and starting Thursday thousands of people are expected to attend the three-day 2009 Cache County Fair and Rodeo.County Clerk and Fair Manager Jill Zollinger says, for good reason, the theme this year is Celebrating 130 Years of Good Times.”The first recorded appropriations for the county fair were made in December of 1878,” Zollinger said on KVNU’s Crosstalk Show Tuesday. “Since that time we’ve had a fair each year where people throughout the community could come and bring different crafts that they’ve made, quilts, canning, their animal exhibits. It’s just evolved through the years and we have had good times.” Zollinger says Macey’s has teamed up as a partner in celebrating the fair’s 130th anniversary. Macey’s will have a place near the entertainment stage at the fairgrounds where fun activities will be going on and free birthday cake will be served daily from 4 to 6 p.m.What has quickly become a relatively new annual tradition is Wheelin’ and Dealin’, a game-show like contest sponsored by Cache Valley Radio Group stations VFX and KLZX. Over $30,000 worth of prizes will be given away to 40 contestants on the fair’s opening night on the entertainment stage. The rodeo starts each night at 8 and Zollinger says once again there will be great pre-rodeo events along with a variety of entertainment, and food vendors. Amusement rides will run daily from 11 a.m. until midnight and all-day ride tickets are available for just $15 until 5 p.m. today or while they last.
