She was the first to file and Holly Daines is now one of nine candidates running for two open seats on the Logan Municipal Council. Daines has a strong professional and volunteer background in community, educational and cultural organizations and has a Masters degree in Arts Administration. Daines was a founding trustee and chairwoman for the Capital Arts Alliance which worked to renovate and operate what is now the Ellen Eccles Theatre. On KVNU’s Crosstalk Show Monday, Daines expressed support for the Utah Festival Opera Company which, along with other opera companies and arts organizations, is struggling in this economic crisis.”Donations have gone down and endowments have been impacted because…stock markets and investment income (are down),” Daines said. “It’s been a tough time for organizations so I hope the good ones like UFOC can hang on long enough to get through this rough time because they’re a fine organization and you know their quality is unparalleled.” Besides, Daines says, studies show the UFOC contributes a great deal to Cache Valley’s economic development. Nine council candidates are going after the two seats outgoing councilwoman Tami Pyfer and former councilmember Steve Thompson have held.
