Logan emergency crews have responded to a landslide on Logan’s Island neighborhood. Their primary focus has been a complete evacuation of the affected neighborhoods, particularly the homes right below the Logan & Northern Canal along Canyon Road. The landslide reportedly happened around noon as a result of a canal break, sending mud and water down the hillside and into the neighborhood. The home at 921 East Canyon Road was completely collapsed and four others sustained significant damage as a result of the landslide and muddy water. The water flowed down the streets toward Crocket Avenue. Residents in those neighborhoods worked desperately to sandbag and divert the water to save their homes. Water has been flowing down streets a couple feet deep in some cases. Emergency officials have blocked off everything north of Center Street in the Island area. Anyone with homes in the area that may be at risk are encouraged to contact emergency officials before trying to enter the affected neighborhoods. Power and gas lines were also shut off to surrounding areas to avoid additional problems. Approximately 600 homes were without power for some time this afternoon but that has since been restored.
