Berentzen petitioned to run for mayor

You might say Lloyd Berentzen has become a candidate for North Logan Mayor by popular demand. North Logan City Administrator Jeff Jorgensen says a group of citizens exercised the petition option in making Berentzen a candidate. Jorgensen says the petition contained three pages of signatures in Berentzen’s behalf. If elected, he would replace Mayor Carey Watkins who decided not to seek a second term. Berentzen says he greatly appreciates the confidence the residents have shown in him and he had in fact been thinking about running for mayor. “There was another individual that has decided not to run,” explains Berentzen. “I thought if that person had decided to run, and was a very good individual in our community, I was going to be supportive of that. “Then I got a call a couple of days ago that said, ‘I’m not going to,’ and wanted to support me if I had considered that. I’ve kind of mulled it around a little bit and then this little action by the neighbors kind of preceded that.” Berentzen, who is Executive Director of the Bear River Health Department, is currently serving as a member of the North Logan City Council. Now that he’s been “drafted,” Berentzen says he’ll work hard at being a strong candidate for the office.
