Former Bear River Mental Health employee makes court appearance

A former employee of Bear River Mental Health Services made an initial court appearance Monday on six first-degree felony charges of aggravated sexual abuse of a child.Edgar Mendiola, 37, made the appearance via video in 1st District Court. He is being represented by attorneys Elizabeth Hunt and Ron Yengich, according to court records.During the appearance Monday, Mendiola was ordered to surrender his passport to Hunt, as he is a dual citizen of the United States and Mexico. Bail was set for Mendiola for $30,000, and if he posts bail, 1st District Judge Thomas Willmore said, he is not to have any contact with the alleged victims in the case.Mendiola will next appear in court at 9 a.m. on Sept. 24 for a preliminary hearing.
