The following is an email exchange between John Newbold and Brad Ames, agent for Jaycee Carroll, getting an update on Carroll’s status for NBA summer leagues and rumors of European contracts: Hey Brad do you know how Jaycee is going to be used in the summer league? Last year New Jersey was really looking for a point guard. Is Jaycee going to be utilized just at the SG or will he be running PG for the Hornets? Also were there any other options for Jaycee and this was the best one? Do you feel he has a better shot to make the NBA or not really a chance because of the economy? As an agent how do you deal with the down economy? JOHN NEWBOLD KVNU SPORTS >> John, Jaycee will play both PG and SG for New Orleans. There were many options for Jaycee, and he played in mini-camps with Memphis and Cleveland last month and did very well. It’s a tough year for free agent guards because so many PG’s were drafted and teams will give a lot of time to their draft picks in summer league. I think he has a great chance to make it in the NBA, he would have had a good chance last year as well but we were not able to get a guarantee for him and the Italian deal was the right move. He will have a great chance to showcase himself and prove that he belongs in the NBA. The economy is affecting everything worldwide. Overseas deals are down, teams are going bankrupt, but overall things are moving forward. In terms of the NBA, a lot will depend on sponsorship and season ticket sales this summer. We’ll see what happens but I don’t think it will be as dire as some expect. Brad >> Thanks for the information Brad. One last question for now. Am I reading too much into what you said when you think Jaycee has a good shot to make the NBA? Do you feel that Jaycee will make a bigger risk this year if someone doesn’t offer him a guarantee, but invites him to their fall camp? Will he take that if it feels right or does he go for the contract, the one that has been rumored that he has been offered from Gran Canaria, Spain of the Spanish league? Thanks again for your insight. It is nice to hear it from you instead of all the rumors that are out there. Thanks again. JOHN NEWBOLD KVNU SPORTS >> Jaycee has a good problem – he has great offers in Europe and has to decide whether to take the money and put the NBA on hold for another year, or stick it out and try to make it on a roster here. We are close to getting something done with Gran Canaria, which will include an option to get out if we have a good NBA opportunity for him. It’s a balancing act and comes down to a decision he and his family have to make. He certainly has some great options though. Have a good weekend — Brad Ames
