Cache Valley Skater takes Gold at 2009 Skatefest

14 year old Shania Laird of Logan Utah brought home the gold, winning first place in the Intermediate Ladies Freeskate event and the Intermediate Ladies Long Program at the 2009 Skatefest competition in West Valley City, Utah. Competitors came from as far as Oregon and Fairbanks Alaska, and included Utah clubs from Salt Lake, West Valley, Murray, Cottonwood Heights, Ogden, Provo and Park City. Shania began her skating career in Cache Valley in 2002 and is a member of the Wasatch Figure Skating club. She trains in Logan, Ogden, Bountiful and Salt Lake City. She is coached by the international team of Karel and Amanda Kovar, and Jozef Sabovcik, all pro skaters from the 2002 Salt Lake Olympic opening ceremonies, Disney on Ice, and the Sun Valley Summer Figure Skating shows. Shania is also the 2009 Cache County Fair & Rodeo Princess and attends Mt. Logan Middle School and will be attending Logan High School as a freshman in the fall.
