Mosquito pools have tested positive for the West Nile Virus in Cache and Box Elder counties. The Bear River Health Department now has the capacity to test mosqitos for West Nile in their local lab. Chris Nelson, Environmental Health Scientist for the departent, says this is a great benefit to the community as it provides immediate results and allows for additional abatement to be coducted in those affected areas. Nelson says when a mosqito pool tests positive a sample is sent to the Utah Department of Health lab for confirmation. Bear River Health Department officials encuorage everyone to practice personal prevention, especially over the 4th of July holiday weekend, to avoid being infected with the virus.
