A proposed ballot initiative that, if approved, would change the way political redistricting is done was explained last night by members of the Fair Boundaries Organization. Redistricting occurs in Utah every 10 years following the Census and volunteers are gathering petitions to put the issue on the ballot in 2011.Cache County Democratic Chairman Vince Wickwar says this is a nonpartisan effort to make sure Utah’s representatives are accountable to the populations they serve and that boundaries are not drawn to help people get elected. Cache Republican chairman David James says the Legislature is doing a good job of redistricting and the process does not need to be changed.
