Utahns vote ‘No’ on climate bill

President Barack Obama is urging Senators to show courage and pass a landmark bill meant to curb greenhouse gas emissions and create an energy efficient economy. The House of Representatives passed the bill Friday by a seven vote margin. U.S. Rep. Jim Matheson, D-Utah, joined other Utah Republicans Rob Bishop and Jason Chaffetz in opposing the bill. Matheson says the American Clean Enery and Security Act of 2009 is not structured in the right way and that it would unfairly impact Utah. Matheson will be in Hyrum tonight as the keynote speaker for a patriotic program launching the town’s annual “Star Spangled Week.” Matheson, the only elected Democrat from Utah serving in Washington D.C., will speak at 7 p.m. on the city square.
