Girls Junior Americas Cup preview: Natalie Gulbis

Some of the LPGA’s biggest stars first played in the Girls Junior Americas Cup, held this year at the Logan Golf & Country Club from July 28-30. One of them was Natalie Gulbis, who represented northern Nevada and is one of at least 20 players who made the LPGA tour.Natalie has won over $3 million, the 2007 Evian Masters, and was a member of two Solheim Cup teams. “My first Girls Junior Americas Cup was in New Mexico. Kathy Whitworth spoke and I remember the whole experience. I was 12 or 13, playing in a team event and representing your state was a big deal. “Now playing on Solheim Cup I’ve drawn upon those memories to play for my country. It was the first time I met Lorena Ochoa, she and her teammates were doing the Macarena and taught us the dance. It was a big confidence boost because it meant that I was one of the best players in the state and I got to compare my game up against the other really good junior players.”The representatives on this year’s teams will be announced shortly. Could there be another Natalie Gulbis in the group? This is the only the second time in the tournament’s 32 year history it’s been staged in Utah and will be the biggest golf event ever in Cache Valley. For more background you can go to
