Thursday June 25th has been designated “Torture Accountability Day” by the High Road For Human Rights group. Former Salt Lake City Mayor Rocky Anderson is the group’s spokesman and he says everyone’s invited to take part in a event where people can take a stand on the issue of torture. On KVNU’s “For the People” program Friday, Anderson talked about the purpose of the rally. “Getting people together to take a stand and say that ‘this is not our nation, this is not what we have become, we’re not going to allow our country to be the kind of tyranny that goes around and kidnaps and disappears and tortures people,'” Anderson said. “And I think people have become so inured by all this because they have seen it happen without a whole lot of objection these last several years.”Anderson says the “Torture Accountability Day” rally starts Thursday at 5 p.m. at the City-County building in Salt Lake City. There will be several speakers including Logan resident and Iraqi war veteran Marshal Thompson.
