According to the most recent census estimates, there are more than 260,000 orphans in Russia, and a good portion of them are ostracized by the Russian government. Every year Russian orphans over 4 years old with any physical disabilities are sent to dedicated orphanages and confined to what are called ‘lying-down rooms’ where they are given the bare minimum treatment to stay alive. The local Families 4ever Foundation is working to find homes for these children. A benefit fundraiser is taking place at Kitchen Kneads tonight with a Creative Breadmaking Class. Also, between 6 and 8 p.m. tonight 15% of all sales will benefit the foundation’s effort to bring two specific girls with cerebral palsy to America.
