Monster X tour visits Cache Valley

LOGAN – Robert Brett said that he doesn’t get a break. The owner and driver of Rock Star, one of the headlining monster trucks with the Monster X tour, has spent the last year traveling the United States and parts of Europe with other monster truck drivers. The tour makes a stop in Logan this weekend.

Brett said that his day normally starts around 8 a.m. and sometimes doesn’t get over until midnight. When he is not driving to the next location of the tour, he is repairing and fine-tuning his truck for the weekend’s show.

“We work on them pretty much all week long and drive them for about ten minutes each day on the weekends,” he said.

Despite the long hours and the hard work, Brett said he enjoys what he does and loves to meet the fans and watch the kids get excited when he fires up his truck. He has always had a passion for automobiles and that is what got him into the sport.

“I’ve always loved automobiles,” he said. “I’ve always loved tinkering with stuff and hey, come on. Who doesn’t want to drive a monster truck? That’s pretty much it. It was an automotive job and that’s what I love doing.”

The trucks take a beating show after show and are in constant need of repairs. Transporting the trucks is done by the drivers as well. In order to move them the drivers remove the larger tires, put on smaller ones, load them into the trailers and drive them to the next location. Brett said that the heat can make his job challenging.

“We just did St. George, Utah and it was like 110 degrees,” he said. “But you got to go out, put on a good show and have fun.”

Brett, who has been a part of the tour for a little over a year now, said he sees himself doing this for at least a couple more years.

“We are hardworking guys and we do it for fun and we do it because we love it,” he said.

The Logan show will be Friday and Saturday at the Cache Valley Fairgrounds at 7 p.m. More information can be found on the Monster X tour website.
