Ribbon cutting opens addition to Brigham City hospital

A separate entrance for ambulance arrivals will help EMS transfer patients faster at the recently-expanded emergency room at the Brigham City Community Hospital

BRIGHAM CITY – Planning which started almost 13 years ago at the Brigham City Community Hospital Thursday resulted in a ribbon cutting ceremony and the opening of an expansion project which doubles the capacity of the hospital’s ER.

Richard Spuhler, CEO of Brigham City Community Hospital, shares remarks at Thursday’s Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the new Emergency Department at the hospital.

CEO Richard Spuhler said the 18-month renovation project, which adds 16,000 square feet of additional space, includes other improvements.

”We also have included some additional rooms for pediatric care, some obstetrical care,” Spuhler explained. “We also have some things that when it comes to those individuals that may have been been exposed to chemicals or infectious diseases or things like that, that we can put them in an isolation room and yet care for them properly and safely.

As a Level IV Trauma Center, going from one to two trauma bays means faster care for patients in a trauma emergency at the Brigham City Community Hospital.

“We’ve enhanced some of our areas in the hospital in the emergency room for behavioral health care as well.”

Spuhler said work will begin Monday to install a state-of-the art MRI, a multi-million dollar project which will about take three months. Also, he said work will begin at a later date on an expansion of the hospital’s OR.
