Utah unemployment rate hits historic low, officials say

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) – Utah officials say the unemployment rate is now the lowest ever recorded. The Salt Lake Tribune says the 2.3% unemployment rate also ties for lowest among U.S. states.

Data released Friday shows the industries seeing the fastest growth are construction, education and health services and leisure and hospitality services.

Washington County had the biggest job growth, followed by Rich and Iron counties. Federal data shows the national unemployment rate was 3.5% in December.
