MURRAY (AP) – Former Utah House speaker Greg Hughes has pitched himself as a conservative, dynamic candidate for governor at a campaign announcement Wednesday.

Hughes spoke at an auto-repair shop owned by an immigrant family. He says he’s the only GOP candidate so far aiming to secure a spot on the primary ballot by appealing to party delegates who are often more conservative than the rest of the GOP electorate.

He’s taking a different position on a tax-reform package, declining to support efforts to challenge it. The field includes former U.S. Ambassador to Russia Jon Huntsman Jr. and Lt. Gov. Spencer Cox.
