David Earl Morse

December 8, 1942 – November 16, 2019 – (age 76)

David Earl Morse, 76, was born December 8, 1942 in Boise, Idaho. He passed away November 16, 2019 in Logan, Utah. He was the fourth child born to Clarence Earl Morse and Ethel Lillian Ingram Morse. Growing up in Boise he was active in sports. Traveling with the swimming team he visited many cities in the area diving and competing.

David’s father passed away on July 15, 1957 when he was only 14 years old. David later joined the US Navy Reserves in 1960 while he was a senior in High School. Graduating in 1961 from Pocatello High School.

In the summer of 1961 David joined the US Forest Services, as a firefighter, on the Payette National Forest. While still serving as a US Navy Reserves in 1961 in entered full duty. He was assigned to the electronics shop. Having a natural talent in repairing radio and equipment and gaining a love for anything electronic he found himself assigned to the Electronics Technician Class “A” School. After his release from active duty in 1963 and gaining a passion for electronics he attended Idaho State University and graduated in the field of Electronic Technology in 1966.

While attending school in In Pocatello he became acquainted with the “Mormons” and while working in Las Vegas Nevada he was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on February 24, 1967.

David returned to school and attended Weber State College where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electronics Engineering Technology in 1970. Following graduation he begin working for Utah State University in Logan, Utah with the Space Dynamics Laboratory. While working for SDL he would continue his education receiving a Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering in 1974 and continued working as research engineer until his retirement.

In 1971 David met Shirley Golightly, the love of his life. He said of her, “She was a swell girl right from the start”. They were married on December 16, 1971 in the Logan Utah Temple. David had a great love for his wife Shirley developing a sweet habit of always giving her a treasured kiss goodbye anytime he would leave the house.

This sweet couple would go on to raise four boys and one girl. David loved family trips and spending time with each of them. Some of his favorites were trips to Florida, Bear Lake, and the countless trips to Yellowstone. David and Shirley fulfilled a lifelong dream to visit Jerusalem as one of their many trips together in retirement.

Davis was very organized and was a hard worker. Everything had its place and was put there. He always had a love for his forbearers and gained a love for genealogy spending many hours working on family lines and history. Serving in many positions within the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints he was a devout member.

David is survived by his forever wife, Shirley, children; Earl (Juliette their children, Layla, Maha, and Qasim of Lakeland, Florida), James (Missy their children, Jaxon, Makenzie, and Zander of Murray, Utah), Candice (her daughter Aizja of Logan, Utah), and Christopher of Logan, Utah. David is proceeded in death by his parents, Clarence and Ethel Morse, his two sisters, Dixie Lee Watson and Jana Vee McKnight, and his son, Douglas Golightly Morse.

Funeral services will be under the direction of Allen-Hall Mortuary. Viewing and funeral services will be held at the River Heights 2nd Ward Chapel, 869 South 600 East, River Heights, Utah. Viewing to be held at the chapel Thursday, November 21, 2019 from 6:00 – 7:30pm and prior to the services, Friday November 22, 2019 from 10:30 – 11:30am. Funeral services will be at 12:00pm and interment will be at the Providence Cemetery in River Heights, Utah.
