LOGAN — A 21-year-old Paradise man has waived his right to a preliminary hearing and has confessed to having sex with a teenage girl. Steven A. Nath has been in jail since being arrested in September.
Nath appeared in 1st District Court Monday afternoon. He accepted a plea deal, pleading guilty to unlawful sexual activity with a minor, a third-degree felony; furnishing alcohol to a minor and contributing to the delinquency of a minor, both misdemeanors. As part of the agreement, prosecutors dropped five remaining charges.
Cache County Deputy Attorney Griffin Hazzard explained to the court that in April, Nath met up with the 14-year-old girl along with others. He provided her alcohol and drugs, in exchange to have sex.
Hazzard said Nath has had previous criminal cases filed against him, including escaping from custody, disarming a police officer and assault by a prisoner. The defendant was recently receiving treatment in a rehab program but was caught distributing drugs to other patients.
Nath spoke only briefly, telling the court he was willing to waive his rights in exchange for pleading guilty.
Judge Clint Judkins ordered Nath to be sentence November 12.
Nath could face up to five-years in prison.
