LOGAN — A 39-year-old Logan man has confessed to failing to register as a sex-offender. Matthew A. Strang accepted a plea deal that could put him behind bars again.

Strang appeared in 1st District Court Tuesday morning. He pleaded guilty to three counts of failure to register as a sex offender, a third-degree felony. As part of the agreement, prosecutors dropped two remaining charges against him.

In April, police officers responded to Strang’s home on a health emergency. After providing medical assistance, police learned that Strang had a warrant for his arrest out of Tennessee. Officers there claimed he failed to keep his sex offender registry up to date.

Court records show that Strang was convicted of attempted sodomy of a minor in September 2000.

Strang was cooperative with officers. He claimed that he thought he only had to register for 10-years, so he never registered after moving to Utah.

During Tuesday’s court appearance, Cache County Deputy Attorney Dane Murray explained that the charges were because Strang had not registered his name, home and work addresses, and physical description on the sex-offender database.

Strang was scheduled to be sentenced August 27. He is currently out of jail on bail and could face up to five-years in prison.
