Torrey Green appears in court again accused of raping seventh woman while at USU

Former Utah State University linebacker Torrey Green appears in the First District court on Thursday, the second day of a three-day preliminary hearing. Green is charged with six counts of rape, one count of aggravated kidnapping, three counts of forcible sex abuse and two counts of object rape.

LOGAN —Torrey J. Green was back in court, appearing before the same judge who sentenced him to prison in March.  The 25-year-old former Utah State football player, who has already been convicted of raping six women, faces another criminal case that he allegedly sexually assaulted a seventh woman, while he was a student.

Green appeared in 1st District Court Tuesday morning, being transferred to Logan by prison officials.  He is charged with rape, a first-degree felony.

Judge Brian Cannell explained that prosecutors had filed a “doctrine of chances” motion, to allow evidence from Green’s previous convictions to be admissible in the latest case because of the similarities.

Public defender Shannon Demler said they were planning to file a rebuttal.  He also requested a hearing, where attorneys will present their arguments.

Judge Cannell scheduled the hearing for August 21.  He said the defendant could appear by video, after Green said it was difficult for him to be transferred from the Caine County Jail, where he is serving his prison sentence.

Prosecutors allege that Green met the victim at a party in November 2015.  He then took her to his apartment, and raped her in his bedroom.

The woman claimed she told Green, “No, I’m not that kind of girl” and “I don’t want to do it!”  She also said she tried to leave the bedroom but couldn’t, because the defendant had locked the door.

In March, Green was given the maximum prison sentence for raping or sexually assaulting the six other women, after a jury found him guilty.  He was ordered to serve between 26-years-to-life behind bars.

Green played for the Aggies during the 2011 to 2015 seasons.  He was signed by the Atlanta Falcons in 2016, but later dismissed shortly after the rape allegations against him surfaced.
