John (Jack) Edmund Lunnen

June 18, 1936 – June 2, 2019

John (Jack) Edmund Lunnen passed away on June 2, 2019 at Logan Regional Hospital in Logan Utah from complications of pancreatic cancer. Jack was born June 18, 1936 in Provo, Utah. He was the son of Albert Lester and Elizabeth Wheeler Jones Lunnen. Jack was the second of seven children.

Jack grew up in Utah and Montana where he graduated from Noxon High School in Montana, Jack was proud to say he graduated in the top 5 of his class. After high school Jack served in the United States Army in Korea as a radio operator. After serving in the Army Jack earned his BA and MS degree from Utah State University and his PhD from Colorado State University. He taught at the Kansas City College of Osteopathic Medicine for 12 years before returning to school at The New England College of Optometry where he earned his OD degree in 1994, he then practiced Optometry in Kent, Washington for 30 years.

Jack married Hella Utta Montigel on December 20, 1957 in the Logan Utah Temple they have been married for 61 years. They have 3 children, Micheal Lunnen (Debra) Thousand Oaks, California, Ralph Lunnen (Debra) Liberty, Missouri, and Heidi Fackrell (Joe) Olathe, Kansas. They are very proud of their 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

Jack served faithfully in many callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints including as a missionary in the Central States mission and as an ordinance worker in the Seattle Washington, and Logan Utah temples. Jack loved serving the families of his ward. Jack was gifted in many areas especially woodworking, quilting with his wife Hella and he had a great love for music, both singing, writing and playing his piano. Jack had a love of travel and spent many hours taking his family on memorable family vacations. Jack was a source of compassion and wisdom for his children and grandchildren and was loved by them very much.

After retirement Jack and Hella served missions in the Washington DC temple for 2 years and the Laie Temple in Hawaii.
