Hillyard will co-chair tax reform task force

An announcement came late on Monday from Utah’s legislative leaders that the Tax Restructuring and Equalization Task Force had been officially created. The goal of the task force is to dig into proposals to reform the tax policy in the state to generate a more solid or broad revenue base for the state.

During the recent session there was a big debate over a proposal to decrease the sales tax rate but expand taxes to include hundreds of services. Senator Lyle Hillyard, R-Logan, was one of the voices asking to slow the process down. Sen. Hillyard will now co-chair the task force.

I’m excited about that responsibility and that assignment. I’ve been involved in tax reform a lot of my time up here in the legislature. I was really fortunate when I was first elected, I filled in for my good friend Chic (Charles) Bullen.

“(He) really had been a leader in tax reform in the state of Utah. So, naturally, a lot of those assignments he had fell to me and so I’ve been involved in it,” Hillyard said.

On KVNU’s For the People program on Tuesday, he said a Town Hall  meeting will be held concerning the tax on services issue the evening of Wednesday, May 15th at 7 p.m. at the Historic Cache County Courthouse at 199 N. Main in Logan.

Yeah, backlash should have occurred. The more the public knows
thanks sometimes to the press the better deal we can work out.
First of all, let it be known we have ample revenue. Now to eliminate
the absurd tax on groceries . . . . .and ?? Two other items.
Reimburse businesses for doing your dirty work, and>>>>>>
boot the nation’s boards of regents and reduce college presidents
from $20,000/month through $100,000/ month down to something
less egregious. It is a crime.
