Utah State Track & Field completes final tune-up before conference championships

OGDEN, Utah/STANFORD, Calif. – Utah State’s track & field teams completed their final tune ups before next week’s conference championships by competing at the Weber State-hosted Twilight Meet and the Stanford-hosted Payton Jordan Invitational. In all, Utah State recorded six top-three finishes.

At the Twilight Meet, junior sprinter Chad Artist recorded a personal-best in the men’s 100-meter run with a time of 10.88, finishing third overall. In the long jump, senior Leaugen Fray placed second with a distance of 6.88 meters (22-7), and also tied for third in the long jump with a leap of 2.05 meters (6-8.75).

Sophomore Jacob Davis placed fourth in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.88, and sophomore Oran Wasserman earned a fourth-place hammer throw of 51.47 meters (168-10).

On the women’s side, sophomore Whitney Skabelund placed second in the long jump with a leap of 5.44 meters (17-10.25). Fellow sophomore Aspen Drecksel placed fifth in the same event with a distance of 5.24 meters (17-2.25), and finished third in the 200-meter run with a time of 27.59. Rounding out the Twilight Meet was freshman Lily Fullmer finishing sixth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 27.59, while fellow freshman Dani Nielson finished second in the 200-meter run (27.22) and sixth in the 100 meters (13.06).

At the Payton Jordan Invitational, senior women’s distance runner Cierra Simmons-Mecham competed in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, finishing 16th with a time of 10:19.68.

Utah State is back in action from Wednesday through Saturday, May 8-11, when it travels to Clovis, Calif., for the Mountain West Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
