LOGAN — A 28-year-old Logan man has been arrested and charged with downloading child pornography. Zachary P. Stocker was booked into the Cache County Jail Tuesday, where he was being held on $200,000.

Stocker was arraigned in 1st District Court Thursday afternoon. He appeared by video from jail, hours after prosecutors charged him with 20 counts of sexual exploitation of a child. Each charge is a second-degree felony and carries a possible sentence of up to 15-years in prison.

Agents with the Internet Crimes Against Children’s Task Force began investigating Stocker after they allegedly traced the illegal images to his Island neighborhood apartment. They served a search warrant there Tuesday before arresting him.

During Thursday’s court appearance, Judge Brian Cannell verified Stocker’s identity and read through the suspected charges. He ordered him to appear again for a formal arraignment March 5.

Defense attorney Ray Malouf asked the court to lower Stocker’s bail. He explained that his client had no criminal history and was honorably discharged from the US Army with the rank of Sargent.

Judge Cannell said he would allow bail to be lowered to $70,000 that could be bondable. He ordered Stocker to have no access to the internet and no interactions with anyone under the age of 18, if he was able to post bond.

Malouf told the court his client’s family would likely not be able to raise the money for Stocker’s release.
