An 18-year-old missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from Hyde Park died Wednesday morning, after falling from the roof of his apartment building. Elder Brennan Conrad was serving in the Dominican Republic Santo Domingo East Mission.

A statement from the Church said it was with deep sadness that officials announce the death of the young missionary. Conrad had been serving since August 2018.

The statement concluded, “Our deepest condolences go out to his family. We pray they will be comforted as they deal with this tragedy and mourn Elder Conrad’s passing.”

Hyde Park Utah Stake President Mario Durrant delivered the news to the Conrad family early Wednesday morning. He said they are still in a state of trying to process the loss of their son, and begin healing. He described the family as being strong and loving.

Durrant explained, “Watching them handle the news of Elder Conrad’s death was very touching.” The spirit of love and testimony he felt was something he will never forget.

The Conrad’s had just spoke with their son on Monday, after the Church announced new changes last week in how missionaries are able to communicate with their families. They said he was so happy to be serving in the Dominican Republic.

In a letter shared by his mother, Melanie Conrad, on Facebook, Elder Conrad wrote about his early experiences in the country. He described how many of the kids in his area had nicknamed him Spider-Man. He said, “I am so glad I’m out here serving the Lord, because it is so sweet!”

Memorial services have not been planned yet. Durrant said the family is still in the process of transferring their son’s body back to Hyde Park. They will then begin arranging funeral plans.

The Conrad’s recently moved to Hyde Park and previously lived in Logan.

Durrant recognized that there were many in the valley who know the family and he asked for prayers on their behalf. “I would ask for the community’s prayers. There is power in that.”
