Search and rescue teams called out to help injured snowmobiler

LOGAN — Search and rescue teams were called out to help an injured snowmobile rider near White Pine Lake in Logan Canyon. The accident was reported Sunday afternoon at 3:30 p.m.

Cache County Sheriff’s Lt. Doyle Peck said a woman in her 40’s was riding with a group northwest of the lake. According to eyewitnesses, as she was going down through a chute she crashed and was hit by another rider.

A member of the group was able to ride to the top of a ridge where they were able to get cell phone service and call 911. The caller reported the woman was struggling to remain conscious.

Search and rescue teams were able to locate the woman and stabilize her condition. A medical helicopter was also dispatched to the scene because of the remote location. They were able to land near the crash site.

Peck said it took rescuers several hours to transport the woman out of the steep terrain, from the crash to the medical helicopter.

The victim’s injuries were not life-threatening. The crash is being investigated by the sheriff’s office.
