Don Robert Korth

May 26, 1927 – December 31, 2018
Don Robert Korth passed away with his loving family near on December 31, 2018 at the age of 91. He was born May 26, 1927 in Garland, Utah, the son of Gustav Robert and Carrie Camilla Johnson Korth. He was married on August 6, 1953 to Lena Mae Muehlfeit in the Idaho Falls Temple.
Don grew up in Garland, Utah as the youngest of six children. He had a happy childhood and shared fond memories of growing up with his family during the depression—he loved hunting with his brother, friends, and his dog Brownie. He joined the Army at the age of 18 and served in Germany shortly after World War II. He loved his country and could often be found reading or watching movies that honored patriotism.
After his military service, he served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the New England States Mission; often living without purse or script throughout rural Maine. Upon returning from his mission, he attended Utah State Agricultural College and worked nights at U and I Sugar Factory. While attending school, Don met and married Lena Mae, his beloved wife of 65 years.
Upon graduating with a degree in Economics, he and Lena Mae moved to Seattle where Don pursued graduate studies at the University of Washington. Throughout Don’s career, he worked for various telephone and engineering companies in Boise, ID, Spokane, WA, Seattle, WA, Tremonton, UT, Provo, UT and Springville, UT. Don eventually became the owner of Mid-State Consultants, a telephone engineering and consulting firm, and worked there for 24 years until he retired.
Don’s work brought he and his young family to Utah County where he eventually purchased “the farm”; 65 acres in beloved Mapleton in 1966. The land allowed him to farm, raise Appaloosa race horses, and breed registered Black Angus cattle. Through life on the farm, all five of his children learned the value of work while being raised in an idyllic setting. Living in Mapleton, raising his family, and improving the farm provided Don with lasting purpose and joy for 50 years.
Don was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in multiple callings including Bishop and served several missions. Those who know Don were able to recognize his love of the gospel through his unwavering faith and Christlike example. Don was also active in the community and served on the Mapleton City Council for three terms.
Don is survived by his wife, Lena Mae Muehlfeit, his five children, Diane (Reid) Gunnell, Brian (Leslie) Korth, Rhonda (Scott) Ridge, Paul (Lorelei) Korth, and Mark (Carrie) Korth; 21 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Merlin, Rulon, Vaudis, Dean and Margaret.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 5, 2019 at 12:00 p.m. at the Mapleton White Church, 31 West Maple Street, Mapleton, Utah. A viewing will be held that morning from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. Don will be buried in the Mapleton Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.allenmortuaries.com.
