Paul Borup ready for challenges on Cache County Council

Paul Borup has been attending recent Cache County Council meetings as a resident but says, “things are going to look quite a bit different when I’m actually sitting on the other side in one of the council chairs.”

Borup will be sworn in on January 7th as Cache County’s newest council member. This will be the first time the Logan native has held elected office.

Borup recently traveled to the Utah Association of Counties Convention in Salt Lake City. He said he realized the magnitude and scope of what lies ahead after attending a number of training seminars.

“I’ve had to do a lot of studying, which I thoroughly enjoy,” he says. “It’s just been gratifying to know that I was running for County Council to be involved and get up to speed on what’s going on.”  Borup adds, “The resources that are available and what the county has been able to do so far, that’s just really been exciting.”

Borup has spent the last two months meeting with elected officials and department heads around the valley in an effort to become informed on issues affecting Cache County.

He says it’s important to work with other municipalities in areas of transportation, the restaurant tax, water and air quality issues.

“We have a water district that is now up an running.” Borup says, “We held elections there and so it’s important to make sure that develops and becomes a stronger advocate for our water resources.”

He adds, “We obviously have some inversion issues, so we want to make sure we keep an eye on the air quality as well.”

Borup has traveled all over the country and worked for a number of Fortune 100 insurance companies. He is currently an executive with Sentry West Insurance Services.
