North Park Police Department hires new chief

The North Park Police Department has a new chief. The agency announced Friday afternoon the hiring of Chad Soffe, replacing interim chief Steve Milne.

In a press release, Hyde Park Mayor and chair of the North Park Police Commission, Sharidean Flint expressed excitement about the leadership Soffe brings to the agency. She said, “He comes prepared with an outstanding record of service and experience.”

Soffe has been the chief of the Garland Police Department for over three years. He fills the vacancy left by Kim Hawkes, who retired last summer after over twenty years of service. He will oversee law enforcement operations for North Logan and Hyde Park.

Hawkes announced his retirement in May, while North Logan was considering disbanding the police department and contracting with the Cache County Sheriff’s Office for full-time law enforcement. A month later, the city council decided to keep the department and hired Milne to lead the agency temporarily.

Sharidean said, “We again thank Chief Hawkes for his years of devoted service, and express our gratitude to Chief Milne for his outstanding leadership in these last several months.”
