Multiple organizations are celebrating veterans this weekend, as well as the centennial anniversary of Armistice, the end of World War I. There’s also a special opportunity to help local families for the upcoming holiday season.
Food Drive
Stop by the Cache Community Food Pantry Thursday between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. to drop off money and non-perishable food items to help the pantry stock up for the holidays. Multiple personalities from the Cache Valley Media Group will be broadcasting live throughout the day, so stop by, say hi, and donate to the food pantry to help local families have a better holiday.
Armistice Film Festival
The Armistice Day Film Festival concludes Thursday night with the showing of War Horse at the Utah Theatre.
POW / MIA Vigil
USU’s Air Force ROTC is conducting a POW and MIA vigil on Thursday. It’s an opportunity to remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for the rest of us. The vigil takes place Thursday at 5 on USU’s Quad.
Veterans Day Assemblies
Several schools in the area will be holding special Veterans Day assemblies on Friday. Logan High School invites any and all veterans to their assembly, taking place Friday at 9 a.m.
Family History Roadshow
Make your family history part of national history, at the “We Remember Them” Roadshow at the Eccles Conference Center at USU. You’re invited to bring family artifacts relating to World War I, or to the culture of that period, beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
Veterans Day Brunch
The Cache County Senior Citizen Center is hosting a Veterans Day Brunch on Saturday. It will feature entertainment and a military tribute. The brunch is free, starting at 10 a.m., and all veterans are invited to attend.
Illusionist
Escape artist and illusionist Jay Owenhouse visits the Eccles Theatre for one night only. Grand illusions and live Bengal tigers will take place Friday at 7:30 p.m.
USU Athletics
It’s a busy weekend for USU athletics. The volleyball team takes on Colorado State Thursday at 7, women’s basketball hosts Northern New Mexico Friday at 2, men’s basketball hosts Hartford Friday at 7, the 14th ranked USU football team hosts San Jose State Saturday at 2, and then the USU volleyball team takes on Wyoming Saturday at 7. Go Aggies!
Light Up the Night
The 21st annual Light Up the Night gala at the Logan Golf and Country Club is Saturday. It’s a fundraiser for Stokes Nature Center. Festivities begin at 5 p.m.
Veterans Day Memorial
And finally, the American Festival Chorus and Orchestra will be joined by the USU Symphony Orchestra to perform their annual Veterans Day Memorial, Sunday at 7:30 p.m. in the Daines Concert Hall.
