LOGAN — A semi-truck accident Wednesday morning snarled traffic along a stretch of Valley View Highway for several hours. The crash occurred near milepost 104, along SR-30, just before 9 a.m.
Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Cade Brenchley said the Logan City truck was travelling eastbound. It was returning from the landfill in Clarkston and had an empty trailer.
“The driver states his left tire blew and started pulling the truck to the left,” explained Brenchley. “He was trying to pull it back to the right and keep it centered but was unable to maintain control, causing it to jack-knife to the left.”
The semi-tractor went down into the marsh but the trailer remained on the roadway, blocking the westbound lane. The driver was unhurt.
Brenchley said a portion of the road remained closed for almost two-hours, while crews cleaned up the crash.
“[The truck] leaked a lot of fuel and some other fluids. So Logan City Environmental’s hazmat and the Bear River Health Department showed up, to access the spill and determine what needed to be done to clean it up.”
The highway was reopened completely just after 11 a.m.
This is why we need four lanes and shoulders on this highway.
