LOGAN — A 21-year-old Logan man has been arrested and charged with rape. Paul B. Costel was booked Wednesday afternoon into the Cache County Jail.
Logan City Police Capt. Curtis Hooley said detectives began investigating Costel after the victim reported the assault that allegedly occurred June 27. The woman was an apparent acquaintance of the suspect.
Court records show, Costel appeared in 1st District Court Thursday afternoon, by video from jail. State attorneys had earlier charged him with one count of rape, a first-degree felony.
Judge Brian Cannell assigned Costel a public defender and set bail at $40,000. He also ordered him to have no contact with the victim or her family.
Costel is scheduled to appear again in court Monday for a formal appearance.
