A 61-year-old Mississippi man, suspected of killing his wife and running from authorities, was arrested near Bear Lake after deputies spotted his vehicle at a campground. Charles E. Bowman was taken into custody peacefully by US Marshals Thursday night.
The Rich County Sheriff’s Office posted on their Facebook page that Bowman’s vehicle was spotted in the Rainbow Cove Campground, on the eastside of the lake. The white Nissan Maxima was located Thursday afternoon.
US Marshals were notified and arrived with their strike-force later that night. They arrested Bowman without any confrontation.
Rich County Sheriff’s deputies posted a photo of Bowman, sitting inside an ambulance after the arrest.
According to the US Marshals Service, Bowman is wanted in the violent death of his wife in Pearl River County, Mississippi. She was last seen on May 17, but her remains were later found on their property.
Bowman was seen on surveillance video leaving a motel in Salt Lake City on July 7. He was seen two days later in downtown Salt Lake. Marshals suspected he had been staying in hotels and campsites throughout the area. They believed he was armed and dangerous, offering a $5,000 reward for his apprehension. He will now be extradited by to Mississippi to face murder charges.
