LOGAN – A local race to be decided in the June 26 primary election has retired educator Dan Johnson facing outgoing Cache County Council Member Greg Merrill. The winner will replace Ed Redd in the Utah State House District 4.

Merrill has held numerous other community, church and political position and said all of them will be helpful as a member of the Utah State Legislature.

“Those experiences I think will help me in dealing with the other legislative members and creating a coalition to get the bills passed that the citizens of Logan want and need,” he said.

This election is Johnson’s first political experience and he said it has been exciting meeting and talking to so many friendly people and hearing their stories and needs.

“I want people to know that I’ll listen to them,” he said. “And honestly if there are things that we can do to help solve those problems to help them out, I think that is what government is for. I think the first thing the government needs to do is keep people safe and the second thing it needs to do is identify the things that are appropriate for government to intervene in and to do those things.”
