Newest council member discusses biggest issues facing Providence

PROVIDENCE – Brent Fresz said he sees growth as one of Providence’s biggest issues. As the newest member of the City Council he said he wants to make sure the city’s resources are properly allocated to manage the growth properly.

“I think it is all coming down to zoning for the city to prepare for growth,” he said.

Five residents applied to fill the City Council vacancy left by Jeff Baldwin, who passed away April 25. Fresz was selected by the remaining members of the City Council on May 22 and will serve through 2019.

Fresz said he has been consistently attending the City Council meetings for almost three years and that the members are familiar with him.

“I was on the planning commission for a year and a half,” Fresz said. “I was asked by a couple of people to run last time and I just didn’t think it was the time. When this came up I was asked again and I thought the timing was better.”

Fresz specifically mentioned the Providence bench area as a spot where zoning changes should be made.

“I would like to put some different zoning on the bench,” he said, “so we can get a different variety of people to have the ability to have the great views that we have.”

Fresz would also like to put in a north-to-south trail system under the powerlines along the bench.

“We have one on the south part of town,” he said. “I think that would be a good thing to have.”

Well, Providence I hope you are prepared for high-density multi-family housing. This is a top priority for your Mayor, John Drew, and council members Allen and Fresz. They have been pushing high density on the corner of 200 west and first north for years and some quite vigilant citizens have been quite vocal about it. They have vowed to have spot zoning of high density throughout Providence. To quote your Mayor “We want high-density housing not just in the lowlands of Providence but in the highlands too.” Be prepared and warned
