LOGAN – It’s called different names in different areas, but Eric Eliason said he’s proud to be an active member of a third political party – the United Utah Party. He is also a candidate for congress in the first district on that ticket, the seat Republican Rob Bishop now holds.
Eliason was a guest on KVNU’s “For the People” program Tuesday, saying a lot of people are pleased they have more than two candidates to choose from and more than two platforms to analyze.
“The way we’re doing it, is there is a framework,” he said. “In other words there is a party, there is a way for me to get on the ballot. It is a straightforward way and we can move forward in that way, whereas being an independent may be a little more handicapped.”
Eliason said Utah is the No. 3 ranked state for third party candidates. He said a whole gymnasium was needed when he held a caucus because, in his opinion, people are looking for something different and refreshing.
