Logan man sent to prison for sexually assaulting teen girl at Cache Valley Mall

LOGAN — A judge has sentenced a 22-year-old Logan man to prison for sexually assaulting a teenage girl at the Cache Valley Mall.

Court staff report Ariq S. Mayo appeared in 1st District Court Monday afternoon. He previously pleaded guilty to attempted forcible sexual abuse, a third-degree felony and misdemeanor theft.

Logan City Police arrested Mayo in March after a girl reported that she was assaulted while using a massage chair inside the mall. She described how the defendant stood behind her, while she was in the chair, and ejaculated on her.

Mayo was on probation at the time of the crime after pleading guilty to unlawful possession of a credit card, also a third-degree felony, and misdemeanor unlawful use of a credit card.

During Monday’s court appearance, Judge Kevin Allen sentenced Mayo to serve two terms of zero-to-five-years in prison for both felonies, and two terms of 180-days for the misdemeanors. The sentences will run concurrently, meaning that they will be served all at the same time.
