Former South Dakota basketball commit following Coach Smith to USU

LOGAN – One of Craig Smith’s recruits is following him to Utah State.

The newly-hired basketball coach made his first addition to the USU basketball roster since taking over the head coaching job. It was announced Tuesday afternoon that Tauriawn Knight would be joining the team for the upcoming season.

At 6-foot-1, Knight led his team in scoring with more than 19 points per game. He first signed to play for Smith at South Dakota, but announced on April 11 that he was given a release and would reopen his recruiting.

In a prepared release, Smith called Knight “an ultra-competitive guard that can play both spots in the backcourt.”

“He finished up an outstanding senior season by leading his team to the Class 6A State Championship game,” Smith said. “Tauriawn’s a winner. He plays with great pace and really understands how to make others around him better.”

According to the USU release, Knight recently finished his senior season at Edmond Santa Fe High School in Edmond, Okla. where he led his team to the Class 6A state title game and was named a top-five player in Oklahoma by NewsOK.com.

More additions to the USU basketball roster are expected.
