Cache Valley man killed in morning explosion at Autoliv Plant

A 64-year-old Cache Valley man died early Monday morning after an explosion at the Autoliv plant in Promontory. Ronald Larson was pronounced dead at the Brigham City Hospital with severe burns.

Box Elder County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Dale Ward said 911 operators received a report of a building fire at the facility around 2:15 a.m. Larson was reported to be in the mixing portion of the building alone at the time of the incident. He was trapped and on-site personnel were attempting to rescue him.

The ATK on plant ambulance was dispatched to the explosion. They also requested an additional ambulance and paramedics from Box Elder County.

Ward said Larson was successfully extricated from the building and transported to the hospital. While en route, he stopped breathing and paramedics attempted CPR unsuccessfully.

The cause of the explosion is unknown at this time. Box Elder County detectives have started gathering evidence. Since it appears to be an industrial accident, OSHA is leading the investigation.

Ward said there were reports of others being injured but none of them were reportedly life threatening. The extent of those injuries are unknown.
