Charges coming after crash into sheriff’s office substation

PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. (AP) — Authorities say a Florida woman is facing criminal charges after crashing into a sheriff’s office substation with accelerants in her car.

A Broward Sheriff’s Office news release says 34-year-old Lasandra Johnson will be charged with arson and burglary. The crash occurred Monday at the agency’s South Broward district office in Pembroke Park.

Deputies say Johnson smashed her car into the office’s community service room and a fire erupted inside the vehicle. Officials weren’t immediately saying whether the crash was intentional.

A worker who was painting inside the office helped Johnson out of the car. Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue transported the woman to a Hollywood hospital, where she’s recovering.

A sheriff’s office employee who hurt herself while evacuating was also hospitalized as a precaution.

Jail records didn’t list an attorney for Johnson.
