Police investigating man’s body found near USU campus

LOGAN — Police are investigating the death of a man, whose body was found outside an apartment complex Tuesday morning.

Logan City Police Capt. Curtis Hooley said police were called to The Factory, a student housing complex west of Utah State University, at 11 a.m. An individual had found the man’s body lying on the ground, south of the apartment’s parking garage.

“Officers and medical personnel responded to the scene and located the individual and determined that he was deceased,” said Hooley. “An investigation ensued to try to determine what the causation of his death was and the circumstances.”

The man, whose identity is not being released, is from California but has grandparents who live in the area.

Hooley said investigators believe the man died from blunt force trauma to the head, after falling from the upper level of the parking garage.

“It appears from video, you can’t see where he goes off the edge but you can see the video before 6 a.m., of him entering the parking complex and going through different levels of that complex. He is by himself and at some point he comes off the edge.”

Investigators are unsure if the man was having some sort of psychological issue or was suicidal before falling.

Hooley said USU police assisted investigators and were able to determine that the man does not appear to be associated with the university.

“We did have the University Police do a search and they were not able to locate him as a student, either currently or in the recent past. At this point we don’t believe he’s a student.”

Police are still trying to determine why the man was wandering around the apartment, near 900 N 600 E.
