Newly-elected mayor of Providence wants to see more communication and more economic development in Providence

Now that he will be going from council member to being the new mayor of Providence, John Drew has some definite ideas he wants to begin. A monthly town hall meeting is one of them, where the people can be part of making a great city even greater.

He also wants to do more with economic development in the city.

“Our council approved membership in Economic Development Corporation of Utah, which is quasi-governmental organization,” Drew explained on KVNU’s For the People program on Monday. “They get money from the governor’s office, they get money from industry, they have municipal governments that join. It’s a membership-type thing.

“There are several cities in the valley who are members. But they have resources, they have tools we can use, they’ve got people on their staff to help guide us through. Their initial pass was probably food type establishments would be ideal for Providence, considering what our commercial district looks like.”

Drew said that is just one idea that has been discussed. He said more good things will happen when there is more engagement between the people and city government.
