Logan man pleads guilty to downloading child porn

LOGAN — A 29-year-old Logan man has pleaded guilty to downloading child pornography and will now wait to be sentenced. Derek Davidson accepted a plea deal that will likely reduce the time he spends in jail.

Davidson appeared in 1st District Court Tuesday morning. He was charged with eight counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, all second-degree felonies. Under conditions of the plea agreement, he pleaded guilty to four counts, amended to third-degree felonies and prosecutors dropped the remaining charges.

Defense attorney Herm Olsen said his client wished to plead guilty and waive his right to a preliminary hearing, where prosecutors would have presented their evidence in the case.

State attorney Spencer Walsh told the court that Davidson was arrested by police after he intentionally downloaded naked images of young girls. He later confessed, admitting that he had an addiction to pornography.

Judge Brian Cannell ordered a pre-sentence report about Davidson’s criminal history to be done by probation officers. He also scheduled sentencing for July 25.
