Mayor Petersen Contemplates Breaking "Irrevocable" Commitment to Only Seek 1 Term

<div><div>I’m sorry to hear that Mayor Petersen is considering running for another term (and not just because he’d be running against me – ?). You see, Mayor Petersen stated when he ran in 2013 that he would “commit to the citizens, irrevocably, that [he would] serve one term.” (Source: http://news.hjnews.com/allaccess/county-councilman-craig-petersen-announces-run-for-logan-mayor/article_2941e740-bf5b-11e2-a93f-0019bb2963f4.html)</div></div><div><div> </div></div><div><div>Unfortunately, it looks like that commitment may not be quite as “irrevocable” as the citizens were led to believe. Last week on KVNU, the Mayor stated that he was not yet ready to announce whether he would be running again or not. Perhaps he has forgotten his pledge, or perhaps he, like other politicians (including a certain Utah senator), doesn’t mind reneging on a promise when it becomes inconvenient. I hope that that is not the case.</div></div><div><div> </div></div><div><div>Bring on the competition if that’s the way it turns out, but I believe that when a person makes a commitment, they ought to keep it. Let’s hope that Mayor Petersen, unlike some other politicians, is a man of his word.</div></div>
