Federal fugitive pleads guilty and awaits sentencing and extradition

LOGAN — A federal fugitive wanted in Kansas for sexually assaulting a teenager and arrested when deputies found him camping in Black Smith Fork Canyon, has pleaded guilty and now awaits sentencing and extradition.

Allen E. Lemley appeared in 1st District Court Tuesday morning, a day after the 54-year-old pleaded guilty to forgery and giving false information about his identity, both class A misdemeanors.

Lemley was taken into custody September 24, after a deputy patrolling the canyon became suspicious and ran a background check on an RV’s license plate. It came back showing that it was owned by Lemley, who was wanted by U.S. Marshals after fleeing authorities in Ellsworth County, Kansas.

When deputies questioned Lemley, he provided them a false ID and forged documents. He had also attempted to change his appearance by coloring his hair black and losing about 60 lbs.

During Tuesday’s court appearance, state attorney Spencer Walsh asked the court to postpone sentencing so an extradition waiver could be finished.

Judge Kevin Allen said he would continue sentencing until next Tuesday, but warned that he wouldn’t hold Lemley one extra day if Kansas’ authorities weren’t ready to extradite him.
