Utah unemployment rate falls to 3.7 percent

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — New numbers show Utah’s unemployment rate dropped in August to 3.7 percent.

The state Department of Workforce Services reported on Friday that Utah’s jobless rate had dropped two-tenths of a percent from the previous month.

After years of high unemployment during the economic recession, Utah’s jobless rate returned to low rates below 4 percent in early 2015.

The national unemployment rate was 4.9 percent last month.

Utah reports there are about 54,000 residents who are unemployed but seeking work.
