UPDATE: Two teenagers hospitalized after semi vs truck accident in Wellsville

WELLSVILLE — Troopers are investigating an accident Wednesday morning in Wellsville that sent a brother and sister to the hospital in serious condition.

Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Jason Kendrick said the juveniles were in a silver pickup truck on US 89/91, attempting to turn left onto SR 101, when they turned into the pathway of a semi-truck travelling northbound.

“It does appear that they made a left hand turn in front of the semi and failed to yield the right of way,” said Kendrick. “Witnesses at the scene have said that the light was green for the semi and the pickup truck.”

The impact rolled the pickup onto its side and pushed it 50-yards into a corn field.

Emergency crews had to extricate the 17-year-old boy driver and 14-year-old girl passenger from the pickup. Both were transported by ambulance to Logan Regional Hospital.  Both were wearing seat belts.

Kendrick said the 14-year-old girl was later flown by medical helicopter to Primary Children’s Medical Center with a serious head injury and fractured pelvis.  The 17-year-old boy had a punctured lung and fractured ribs.

They teenagers are from Wellsville and were travelling to school.

The driver of the semi-truck was not injured.
