Target has criteria for Cache Valley to meet before setting up shop

Though the Cache Chamber of Commerce has invited Target to Cache Valley, Target has no plans to open in the valley any time soon.

Though Cache Valley continues to grow, Sandy Emile who is the president and CEO of the Cache Chamber of Commerce said there are no plans for a new Target at this time.

She said the Chamber of Commerce has reached out to Target but they, like other big box stores, have certain criteria they need to meet before opening a new location.

“They usually have an average roughly, salary, median wage for that community is $63,000,” Emile said. “So we’re not what Target normally chooses for a community.”

The U.S. Census data for Cache Valley <a href=”https://www.census.gov/quickfacts/table/INC110214/49005,49″ target=”_blank”>reports</a> that the median wage from 2010 to 2014 was $50,367.

Via email, Kristy Welker who is one of their communications representatives sent an email stating, “We continue to be selective when choosing new store locations to ensure we make the best use of our capital from a long term perspective.”

Emile said the Chamber isn’t giving up hope.

“They have our information and we will continue to keep tapping on their shoulders,” Emile said. “We recognize that our community and our citizens throughout the valley, and surrounding areas actually, are all very interested in a Target and I believe that we’d support a Target generously.”
