Police investigating after man’s body is found dead along the Logan River

Logan river trail where police said a cyclist failed to turn, crashed into the ditch and succumbed to his injuries.

LOGAN — Police are investigating after a body was found Wednesday morning, along the Logan River in south Logan.

Logan City Police Capt. Curtis Hooley said a man walking along the river trail located the body of Jeffrey L. Mayers and called 911 around 7:50 a.m.

Investigators believe that Mayers was riding a mountain bike north along the trail when he failed to negotiate a turn, where the trail goes to the west over a bridge. It appeared the 52-year-old man from Logan, rode off the trail and into a ditch where he was found deceased. He was not wearing a helmet.

Hooley said initial evidence is showing the accident happened between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. Officers said there was no scent of alcohol but toxicology tests have been requested to see if drugs or alcohol were involved.
